Annual Dinner & Presentation Evening 2012
We held our fourth Annual Dinner on Saturday 28th April 2012 at a new venue,
St.Paul's Church Hall, Yelverton. Despite losing a
couple of the ladies to illness late in the day, we still had a great turn
out of fifteen gents and thirteen wives.

Starting at the 'bottom', this year saw a mixed
bag of attempts to wrestle the Golden Pants off Paddy. Two
gents too keen to rip Paddy's underwear off went over-the-top,
literally, in their efforts to win
the pants. The rules clearly state "if an off (or similar)
results in the rider ending up at A&E, he is immediately
disqualified from winning the Golden Pants". Martyn's
demonstration of how to do an emergency stop without using
the brakes by
dropping his front wheel into a leat was looking promising
until he landed on his shoulder. And Dan's
take on a quick stop, this time with the
aid of a tree, also resulted in disqualification. His next
attempt
though was far more successful.
As reported on 17th
January, Dan somehow became detached at the back of the
group as we raced to HQ. We had been on a tough ride which
had taken us around Hartor Tor, which at night seems like the
middle of the moors, complete isolation. So having got back
to the friendly village of Sheepstor, you'd think the hard
work done with just a few more minutes cycling until the
warm, welcoming glow of HQ appears. But somehow Dan got lost,
started
to cycle up the steep hill to the Tor itself, then decided
to knock on someone's front door and ask for directions bringing
instant embarrassment on the GOWCC and all our sponsors!!!
The other contender you can read about on September
6th but it did involve a pair of pants, or at least, boxer
shorts! If it weren't for the fact that Sam redeemed himself
later that evening, he could easily now be sitting in front
of the telly with the Golden Pants on!

2011-12
Champion
The award for the Champion Rider and Gentleman of the year went to Steve Bradfield.
As always there are lots of contenders for this award, many meritorious performances
in races, lots of gentlemanly acts, lots of contributions to the successful
running of our club, lots who commit
themselves to most rides and lots of what I consider remarkable drinking feats!!
But this year Steve
was robbed of a Gold Medal in the Dartmoor Classic because of a shredded tyre
when all the hard work had been done. He continued the last few miles on bare
metal!
In additon to that, when he turns up for a ride it always gives
you that extra feeling
of security,
you
know
that whatever
happens, if Steve's there, you are going to get back to the pub!
So instead of a cheap imitation lump of gold, Steve received something far
more rewarding and closer to his heart, the Dartmoor Brewery Jail Ale presentation
pack with two bottles of their finest ale along with a pint glass. Cheers Steve.
