Date: Tuesday
18th December 2012
Route: WP,
Iron Mine Lane, Burrator loop, bottom of Boneshaker, Down Tor, Handrail,
HQ.
Riders: Keith, Stephen & Gidon
Depart WP: 19:45
Arrive HQ: 21:55
Distance: 10 miles
Weather: Mild
For some of us (Gidon and myself) this
was a fun evening. With reports from Colin that a lot of gents were
having problems with their beavers, numbers were low on a non-raining
mild night. Personally, I have no problem with my beavering, not on
a Tuesday
night is the rule!
Anyway, we set off for Burrator with the idea of never being too far
from home and with the ground conditions being boggy at best, there
was a lot of pedaling with no forward movement, hence the rather poor
looking distance covered. Add in the fact that the Meister got a little
lost which caused us to do a fair bit of walking beside the river
Meavy as well.
Having finally arrived at Norsworthy at 9:20pm, we decided to do the
Handrail on the way to HQ. This seemed to be the last straw for the
Meister and his clipping in problems! With the "Thompson Tantrum" behind
us the only way to give the Meister some Christmas cheer was with a
swift intake of beer!
So off we went as quickly as possible by road to HQ, passing a noisy
car on the way. Not sure what was happening, but it sounded like either
the exhaust was hanging off, or the driver thought the three lights
coming towards him meant a very wide vehicle and he scrapped the side
of his car against the granite wall!!!
I am happy to report that the beer worked a treat and the Meister was
soon back to his normal self! Martyn had intended to join us this evening,
but his bike was sick, so he did a road ride and joined us in HQ, as
did Dan who'd had a long day at school. Also in HQ was James, who went
for a ride, but not with us!
Conversation was varied, we discovered
the history behind Martyn's email address,
what
he puts
down Mo Farah's Olympic winning ability to and the "youngsters" of
the group were talking about pregnancy! Read into that what you will!!

PS My bike was sick on Monday morning, but after an afternoon at
Rockin
Bikes, was ready to face whatever Dartmoor had to throw at
us again!
