Gentlemen of Willowby Cycle Club
No hill too steep, no beer too dear!

Date: Tuesday 14th July 2009
Riders: Keith, Sam, Nick & Colin
Distance: 20 miles
Weather: Crap! The rain came, we got wet!
Time: Departed Willowby 19.40, arrived HQ 22.25.

Let down by the Met Office!

Only four optimistic souls were lured out by the promise from the Met Office of no rain before 10.00pm. We headed left out of Willowby, over the river Meavy then up that hill. Left again at Cadover, followed the road until the end then another left up to the track above the clay pits. We managed to find the route down the other side where Nick impressed with his descent over the rocky terrain. But once we hit the 'smooth' track, Nick had a spectacular off that had Rosette written all over it! Caught out by an innocuous rut he was quickly heading for a fence at speed. Here the power of his front disc break sent him out the front! He slowly picked himself up and once he got his breath back remounted and carried on! Whilst trying to get the far side of Lee Moor we took a wrong turn and ended up near Hemerdon. Now, at the furthest point from home, the rain started! We decided to head back to the Lee Moor road and ride to HQ as quickly as possible. Two big, loud, hungry dogs helped us in this quest! With the wind behind all the way to HQ, we were soon wet inside as well as out!
