The Residents go soft!
Only three gents this evening, one of them a near virgin and
no residents!
With Wednesday's forecast considerably better than tonight's, it came down to
those that could only go out tonight that ventured forth. The quickest ever decision
was made to head down to the relative shelter of Cann Wood. Once we got to the
top end muddied and wet from sweat, the rain held no fears for us.
So we took the old Lee Moor Tramway to the clay works and pushed our bikes up
that rather nasty hill. I then suggested that we head over the clay pits via
the triangulation point because I remembered it as being not too tough. Having
only done it in daylight and in the other direction, the ascent came as a bit
of a shock. With very wet ground and a very stiff headwind, the climb was incredibly
tough and on top of that, and with the Routemeister absent, we weren't too certain
where
we
were
going!
By luck more than judgment we did eventually get to the triangulation point.
With the time at 9.15pm we thought an easy ride back to HQ for a couple of relaxing
pints was next, but once we hit the road, the wind hit and we had to pedal hard
just to go downhill!!
So what started out as an expected easy ride with a few loops in Cann Wood then
home turned into quite a test. And it has to be said that Alan passed the complete
examination with flying colours. He now wants to buy a GOWCC jersey and equip
himself
with all the winter
gear. So I have pleasure in announcing that he has
been elevated to Full Member status! Welcome aboard Alan.
