Another Tuesday, another fine and pleasant evening. The President was
first on the scene to meet and greet the faithful. It seems to be the
case whenever I am reporting that there is a no-show from the WP residents...No
matter, Gidon, Dan, Jude, James and I set off for Meavy bound for James’ farm
or Callisham farm as it’s occasionally known. The track was dry
and speedy progress was made up to the farm yard, where we were met
by the owners. After exchanging a few pleasantries it was across by
road to Cadover.
The original plan had been to trawl up the hill to
the trig point and clay pits but it seemed like a long and winding
road and I admit it, it was me that suggested the ‘half man’.
Jude was complaining of a creaking headset and what better way to tempt
a sheared something or other than ye olde broken pipeline, Cadover
to Shaugh Bridge. Jude had not been this way before and the usual warnings
were issued “Hey Jude, If you’re gonna fall off, fall left”.
As
you know a technical and tricky 15 minutes to Dewerstone cottage through
Norwegian North wood, thankfully the fallen trees that had
littered the early section have now been cleared. I do rather like
that last third, potential dangers everywhere but always good fun.
Across shaugh bridge and again I will take the blame here, suggesting
going back up to Goodameavy on the tricky track right beside the Plym
rather than the cobblestones toward the Dewerstone. There was as much
walking as cycling but there were not too many curses or complaints
(that I could hear anyway).
From Goodameavy it was up the hill by road
and then after the cattle grid, bear right, over Martin’s bridge
and skirted the common back to Clearbrook, north to Chub tor. The golf
course seemed a better option than the cycle track (it was only just
after 9). After a bit of mucking about we were safely ensconced at
H.Q where we could talk curry and impressive Hi-fi equipment.
