Date: Tuesday
22nd January 2013
Route: WP, Meavy, Scout Hut, "track to oblivion",
Deancombe, Yennadon, HQ.
Riders: Keith, Steve B, Gidon, Dan, Colin & Greg
Depart WP: 19:45
Arrive HQ: 22:10
Distance: 10 miles
Weather: Snow, strong north wind
Hardy souls we six fancied a taste
of the white stuff so headed for the nearest crack den........ via: Meavy!
We had to head down there as Steve had just cycled up the hill. From
there we decided some roadie miles would get us to the ski fields
sooner. The snow started by the time we got to Ringmoor and continued
as we ventured past the scout hut and up Eylesbarrow.
The snow wasn’t quite compact enough on the lane
and the edges soft underneath into bog. Negotiating the drifts added
to the meandering
and we gave up halfway. The descent was much more fun.
Then Steve suggested we do something harder and so we
all dragged our bikes through the snowy mire down to Deancombe and
to Burrator, which
I have to say made up for the walk we’d just had. Up and over Yennadon
Down and a warm up in the Rock.

President's Footnote: I take full responsibility
for preventing the group from getting any further up Eylesbarrow,
but in hind sight,
I probably saved them from getting back to HQ after closing, at
best!!
