The Gentlemen of Walkhampton Cycle Club
met, as ancient tradition dictates, in Willowby Park. As befits a
large cycling club, we split from the outset
into two groups to suit the specialist interests of the attending riders.
The main party took a wide route, cross country, around Burrator. Significantly,
we found Keith's bridge intact, after it gave way beneath Paul's weight
last week. Keeping low, we avoided the worst of the weather and the sneers
of Dartmoor Rescue.
Arriving late, Paul led a small group
(himself) around various car parks in the local area, under the pretence
of searching for Group 1. He eventually
met up with the main party at HQ. His flushed face and muddy knees stood
testament to his earnest efforts.
Is this club just one big family? We
witnessed the surprise coming together of two 'cousins' in an extended
family held together by deep fried batter.
I'm crying just thinking about the emotional moment when Paul discovered
his long lost chip shop owner hadn't died; just eloped to St.Germans
with Alun's Mum. Really, you couldn't make it up.
