Some people go cycling
I won't say who produced this route but they chose it to avoid the wet
bits. Yeah right.
From HQ we took a quick blast along the NCN27 to the bridge above Clearbrook
before heading across the moor. Routemeister and Greg were leading the
way admirably with myself, Paul, James and Keith trudging along behind.
As we approached the diner though, strange things happened - I began
to catch up with the Meister. Not having done this before, I put it down
to my training regime finally paying dividends. We met Steve B at the
diner before heading back across the west side of Roborough Down back
towards the golf course.
Disappointingly, it turned out that
there was nothing good about me, Steve was just not on song and along
with Keith was suffering a bit.
We had the unusual experience of waiting for the pair of them. Sad to
see an old dog past his best. (LOL) Anyway, by the time we reached the
dogger's car park on the old airfield, the elder statesmen called it
a day and let us go. We quickly put ourselves back on the moor to pick
up an elusive but dry track in the dark.
Said track was soon found. Oh, it wasn't dry. In fact
it was very muddy, very slippery and quite silly. There now followed
a wonderful bit of
the ride that went like this: Slip! "Argh!" Slide! "Bugger!" Big
slide towards tree! "Shhhhhhiiiiiiiitttttt!". Continue this
ad infinitum and put in your own expletives.
Eventually we arrived somewhere, not sure quite where to be honest,
and then headed back up the big tarmac monster towards Longash. Unable
to resist the call of home, I decided against going to the pub. I was
weak. Sorry. I believe the rest of the Gents headed across the airfield
on the way back. Second visit to the doggers eh?
Reporter: Martyn
President's Footnote: Yes, we did all regroup at HQ,
Meister and myself arrived at 9:22pm, not a record early time I should
add! We decided that the Meister's form was down to the GOWCC's
new anti-drugs policy, evidently for him, the drugs did use to work!!
And Martyn, you'd be very happy to learn that I did notice that you hadn't
arrived at the pub and I did enquire as to your whereabouts, the fact
it was an hour after the others arrived is irrelevant!!
