7th August 2012
Route: WP, Clearbrook, HQ.

Depart WP: 19:45
Arrive HQ: 20:45
Distance: Miles and miles
Weather: Drizzle
I eagerly arrived at WP to a surprisingly eerie silence.
I noticed a few curtains twitching suspiciously but no one turned up
and I resorted
to thumping Colin’s door a few times before he answered with the
look of someone very settled in for the night. Which indeed turned out
to be the case. We arranged to meet at the pub at 8.45 and I just needed
a short route to make a pint seem justified.
I set off on the loneliest GOWCC ride by far and covered
more miles and at a faster pace than my GPS could even track to arrive
exactly one
hour later at HQ to meet Colin. I was sufficiently caked in mud to provide
evidence of the impressive ride and sat down at the smallest table I
could find to start on my pint knowing Colin wouldn’t let me down.
A pint later and no Colin I left the pub with my head
down in shame to go and wake up all my children just for some company.
Colin appeared
as I headed off – the unusually damp August has messed up his legendary
punctuality.
