Date: Tuesday
4th October 2011
Route: WP, Horrabridge, Plasterdown, Pew Tor,
HQ.
Riders: Colin, Steve, Keith, James & Simon
(NOT DUNLOP)
Depart WP: 19:48
Arrive HQ: 22:00
Distance: Short, but my computer stopped &
James's smart phone got lost!
Weather: Wet, dryish, wettish, wet, dryish.
6:45pm - I look at the forecast,
heavy rain all evening.
6:46pm - Phone No.4 WP to gauge the mood on the street.
6:47pm - Get cycle gear on.
7:10pm - As I make my way
to the garage, it's chuffing it down.
7:11pm - Ring No.4 WP, "I'm not starting in this, if anyone turns
up give me a ring".
7:12-7:47pm - Debbie does what she excels at, talking on the phone!
7:48pm - Having fettled for half an hour, take bike for road test,
Debbie shouts from front door "It's Colin on the phone".
Colin - "Get
your gear on, there's four of us heading for Horrabridge".
Keith - "I'll meet you where the cycle path crosses the road by
the old station".
8:00pm - As I wait for the four gents, my phone rings, it's Debbie.
Debbie - "There are four strange men out the front asking for you".
We finally join up, go over the Horra Bridge and ascend the hill
next to the old school. Steve decides not to take the field back
towards
Jordan Lane, but we go along an interesting track towards Sortridge. We
ended up in someone's back garden! Pushed the bikes there and 45
minutes after leaving home we found ourselves on the Horrabridge
to Whitchurch road about 400 yards from my home!
Eventually we got to Plasterdown, but then it all went wrong again!
We got split into two groups and I actually thought I was going
in the opposite direction to what I was! James got his smart phone
out to see where we were and that said Horrabridge! I saw some
lights in the distance and cycled towards them, it was Steve and
Colin. Lesson learnt, always put your trust in Steve.
By now it was 9:20pm and we'd hardly gone anywhere. So we climbed
up Pew Tor then simply headed for HQ before anymore mishaps. The
beer was good though.
