Date: Tuesday
10th May 2011
Route: WP, Gratton, Cadover, Pipeline, Plym,
Woolwell, Diner, HQ.
Riders: Sam, Paddy, Alex & Colin
Depart: 19:40
Arrive HQ: 22:00
Distance: Don't know
Weather: Good
Something
must be wrong, Keith is not present at W.P as I arrive, in
fact Paddy and Colin are loitering half-heartedly in their
doorways. Alex then joined us to plot a route and without the
main instigators this was always going to be vague. Anyways,
left at the end and off we raced toward Gratton. We decide to
get off the road and so at the crossroads head for Hoo Meavy.
Just before Urgles, we head up and over Wigford Down, where I
am pretty sure I spotted a cuckoo on the wing. Popping out at
Cadover bridge, we decided to head down the pipeline. As it was
still daylight I was going to be interested to see what kind
of precarious precipices we negotiate under torchlight.
Before we
really get going Colin finally got the opportunity to show us
why he bought a bike with only one fork. Now you would think
that not having to take the front wheel off would speed up a
puncture repair wouldn't you? (only kidding Col), I was quite
happy to take in the swathes of bluebells on the slopes down
to the river. Off again and a really great run through the woods,
past our usual entry gate half way up Shaugh hill, instead the
path took us all the way down to Shaugh bridge.
We then decided
to try and wriggle into Cann by heading down the Plym, oops my
idea. Picturesque and with the very occasional clear run but
otherwise technical beyond our capabilities. We decided to cut
our losses and get up on to the bike track which we did via Bickleigh
bridge. By this time we had decided our plan to hit the big jumps
in Cann was not going to happen, so instead we turned right and
headed up the hill to Woolwell without incident. Along the road
past the Dartmoor diner and then Roborough down to HQ.

President's Footnote: My non-attendance was
due to our house move the following day. I was still painting
until 8:00pm, but after Martyn's misfortune
the previous week still fresh in my mind, a similar mishap by
myself would have resulted in a life time pink chit ban!!
