Date: Tuesday
3rd November 2009
Start time: 19.40
Finish time: 22.15
Riders: Keith, Martyn & Neil.
Distance: 18 miles (WP to WP)
Weather: Moonlit evening, a few short showers.
The Residents go soft (Part Two)!
A disappointing turn out for what was a near perfect evening
for a ride, mild, no wind and moonlit! Just a few short showers
to remind us why there were no riders from WP!! Neil arrived
all the way from Devonport and Martyn came up that hill from
Horrabridge.
Although all
three riders were dead keen to follow the Routemeister's
proposed b'tard route to the top of North Hessary, this was
scuppered by my puncture at HQ2! After a couple of phone calls
to Westy, two shinning knights answered my SOS and arrived at
HQ2 with a very simple piece of equipment to get me back on
the road, a pump!!
So, being the soft bikers that we all are, we saw the sense
in heading down the Plym Valley just incase the heavens decided
to throw another of those shower things at us. We peeled off
before the second viaduct and did an interesting loop which took
us back under the first viaduct. Down beside the Plym to the
ford where Neil and Martyn seemed strangely keen to attempt a
crossing. After four wet feet and less than four feet of progress
they decided to leave it for another day!
We headed under the viaduct and climbed back
up to the old railway and onwards to Cann Wood for a few more loops before reappearing
at the kissing gates. Neil decided it best to head for home
rather than HQ and Martyn and myself basically did the same but
in the other direction. A good night was had by all, far better
than watching telly I'm sure!!!
