Date: Friday 11th December 2009
Riders: Greg & Keith
Departure time: 10.30
Arrived Home: Midday
Distance: 12 miles (estimated)
Weather: Cool wind, dry.
Keith and I found ourselves idle on a Friday
morning but could spare only a meager 90 minutes to find a
bit of ‘off-road’.
I had a postman pat errand to perform in Meavy,
so down the hill we went. Back up the road to Burrator, Sheepstor,
and the
anti-clockwise Deancombe trail. Not as arduous as the reverse
as I remember. A good bit of technical downhill and a couple
of BMX moments on my front wheel followed by some good water
splash photo opportunities on the broad track in Middleworth
plantation. Down to Norsworthy bridge, we then took the North
circular cutting up to Lowery Cross via the ruined farm building.
Across Yennadon Down to Iron mine lane, Lake
and home. No HQ today! We both had about three minutes of ticket
time remaining.

President's Footnote: Making way for Greg to
attempt the big drop down to Deancombe, I missed a master class
exhibition
in downhill, rocky, muddy, descents! So, it is rideable, but
I'm not sure how many of us could make it to the bottom still
on two wheels, or how many should even attempt it. But Greg has
thrown down the gauntlet for the braver amongst you!!
