GOWCC v Dartmoor at the Stadium of Summer
"Well, you join us on a splendid
evenin' in Devon. The teams are just lining up. Dartmoor have stuck
with their tried
and trusted squad
- Moorland playing at midfield, the Tor brothers, Moss in goal, Plymouth
on left wing and Okey on the right with Steam Crossing, Rock, Bracken,
Sheep and Pony filling up the other spots. A less often seen player -
Sunshine is also making an appearance tonight. He's had a few matches
recently but not as many as we'd like to see him at. Meanwhile GOWCC
are playing some old hands - Hattan and Parriss, their experienced mid-termers
- Horler, Reid, Woodbridge-Harris, White and Whitford and then the relatively
new signings of McCauley and Barnes. Both teams take to the pitch now;
let's hope for a stunner.
There goes the whistle and the Bike
Boys take off down the field. Hattan as normal is on strike with Horler
and Woodbridge-Harris playing the
last line of defence. Hattan has to be careful not to over-extend at
the front. He doesn't want to find himself by 'imself if things get tough
up front. Oh and Dartmoor throws up a hill in defense but the boys have
seen it coming and handle it well.
You can begin to see the teams sizing each other up. GOWCC testing along
the flanks towards Dartmoor's Lovaton and Lovaton throwing a couple of
tricky tracks and wandering sheep to keep the attackers at bay. And what's
this? All the Biker Boys are suddenly walking, tiptoeing around the sudden
appearance of a farm with dogs. Full credit to the lads, the set play
worked well. No dramas.
Now a sudden injection of pace and think Dartmoor's been caught napping
here. The lads are really putting the hammer down and charging towards
the clay pits. Are we going to see a goal here? No. Suddenly, the boys
are dead in their tracks. Dartmoor's thrown up an excellent defence there
with some great teamwork between Rock, Moorland and the sinewy lad Path.
They've really forced GOWCC to back off the pace there and try a different
way in. It looks as though they're heading towards one of the Tor family,
I think its Trowlesworthy.
And the big lad is really making them
work hard. You can see the exertion on the faces of GOWCC. OOOOH! That's
a harsh challenge. It looks like
McCauley is down. Let's hope its not serious. He's huffing and puffing
a bit. Rest of his team don't seem particularly worried or concerned.
There'll be a lot of stoppage time from this. He'd getting back to his
feet. Riding it off. I think it was just a knock.
The stops allowed both teams to get re-organised. The GOWCC boys have
just slipped round Trowlesworthy, leaving him standing and now they're
going for Moorland. It looks like they might be heading for Ditsworthy
but they seem a little confused. Oh and Woodbridge-Harris is down. I'm
not sure what happened there. Rock was near him but I don't think there
was much contact. I think the tall double-barrelled lad made the most
of very little contact there. No foul.
Off they go again but I think GOWCC
seem to have lost their way a bit here. There's no real direction.
Parriss, the captain, is doing a lot
of talking, trying to get them back in order. Here they go, they've seen
the gap and they're going for it. They've got good width here - men left
right and centre. And Woodbridge-Harris comes down again, this time with
a real clatter. We'll just check the replay to see what happened there.
Oh, that's terrible. Dartmoor snuck on Hole as an extra man. He hid behind
Bracken and then tripped Woodbridge-Harris. And the ref has to send him
off for that. Yep, that's it, the little fella is off. That was cynical
from Dartmoor . I have to say, I didn't think Woodbridge-Harris got the
support he needed there either from his team mates. Just a bit of sniggering
from them really.
Well, that's taken some momentum out of the charge of the Biker Boys
but they're pushing on. Here comes Stream Crossing though. He's a big
lad with long legs and is putting up quite a defence. The GOWCC boys
are splitting up again. They're ducking and diving left and right and
one by one getting past. Horler loses his footing there for a moment
but finds his feet again. Bit damp perhaps but otherwise OK. They've
got to Ditsworthy. A goal could be in sight here, they're really building
something.
Around the back of Burrator! They're making it look simple. A dab here.
A stab of the brakes there. The boys are looking good. They've found
a nice smooth route now though. They're not sure what to do here. The
obvious way would be to keep it low but they throw an unusual one in
here - they're going towards Yennadon!
Oh and another casualty! Parriss is
looking sore. Yep, he's backing off. He's going to stay on the pitch
but I don't think we'll see much from
him again this match.
The other lads though can sense a score. Here they go, really putting
on the pressure. Down across Yennadon, flying down the path and it looks
as though they're not stopping. No, they're really flying across the
pitch now, the goal is within reach, can they do it?
Yes! Its a beauty! Even Parriss is there
for the celebrations. Westie, who's been on suspension for a couple
of weeks, joins the lads
as well.
And that's the final whistle. A great game."
