We welcomed a new gent tonight Gary, Sam had convinced him it was the
thing to do, then decided himself to stay in and watch the football!
We set out from Walkhampton tonight and you won't get a better night
in December, dry, mild, calm and moonlit. We headed up the
old railway then went fairly leisurely to King's Tor, dropped
off then through the Merrivale stone row. There were no hard man takers
to go over Staple Tor, so we all headed for Vixen Tor.
At one point tonight it was just like the old days with four founder
members out and the Meister up front. Only problem was the Meister
started heading into a dead end! He's got out of the habit of this
off road night time riding, he's so used to following a white line
in perfect daylight!
There
was enough time to do the west ring
road around Pew Tor followed by a trip past Paddy's house and Glen's
house before reaching the Walkhampton Inn at a descent time. And
the hot topic tonight? It wasn't Nigella or Mandela but the price
the Meavy PTA charge
for a bacon buttie!!
Now the bill, you do the maths. £2.90
for a pint of Jail multiplied by ten and a half
pints plus two
plates of chips. At the Walkhampton Inn that comes to £21!!!
We did
query the bill but landlord Andy was happy. With hospitality like
that, we must return!
