Record Turn Out
With the rain and snow gone
the sun had slowly started to cast longer shadows each day and with
return of sunlight in the
evening a record number of hunters gathered at WP to go forth
in search of the elusive prize of Potatoe Articulus and Carcer
Ale. Some had tales of enforced hibernation over the rainy
season and there was much discussion of the latest mounts and
for some even the garish headwear they chose to wear on the
hunt.
The foray started gently with them timidly exploring the plains
of ‘Pound and Long Ash’, all the time wary of the
nocturnal predatory species of male known as Tabernus Casa.
Led by Stephen and Greg the pack descended the steep banks of
the valley into the safety of the foliage and on down to eventually
arrive at a crossing point on the river.
Here they crossed safely and followed the river towards the sea
and the place known as the ‘meeting of the waters’.
Here Rob's mount threw it’s chain, assisted by James repairs
were attempted, not daring to waste a moment in their pursuit
the rest of the pack continued leaving them to their fate.
Onwards and up to the plain known as ‘West moor’,
here the search was again fruitless and again they headed to
the security of the valley and were reunited with the others,
once again at ‘the meeting of the waters’. From
here they were tested to their limits of endurance as they climbed ‘Bastard
Tumulosus’, a long established ‘right of passage’.
Once reunited at the top the leaders again took the pack back
down to yet another crossing point on the great river and this
time headed upstream, surely their efforts would prove fruitful
this time. At the end of the wooden trail, after yet another
river crossing Rob decided he had had enough and led them up
a zig zag path to the track once used by the fire breathing iron
monsters.
Here the scent was gained and they took off getting faster
and faster until they finally closed on their quarry
at a place known
as ‘HQ’. Here they were replete with the halcyon
memories of the hunt and the feast of Potatoe Articuls and
Carcer Ale. They were amazed by Colin and Julian who through
wisdom
and cunning were able to also join the feast without enduring
the exertions of the others having simply come directly from
WP.

President's Footnote: A
record attendance brought a record ride bar tab, £101.90!!
There was one incident that should be recorded. As I don't
want to lumber the tax payer with anymore surgery on me for
as long as possible, I was quietly decending the grass track
to Greg's Leap 2 when, in true character, a Leeds United fan
tried
to
barge me into the undergrowth!! It should never be forgotten
what the G stands for in GOWCC!!!!!

Has a finer bunch of gentlemen ever assembled before in Willowby
Park?!!
